We think excellent residential interior design is all about the character of the space. In period properties, that might mean highlighting particular features; in new builds, it’s about bringing the outside in and helping the indoor space to reflect the surrounding area.

For that reason, before anything else happens we invest time and energy on learning as much as we can about two things: the people who are going to be (or are already) living there, and the local environment. People have an energy and spirit and so do places; our aim is always to reflect both as closely as possible in our work.

What this actually means, once we get past the asking-and-learning phase, is the same kind of all-encompassing concept-to-specification collaboration which characterises all of our design and build work. The same close partnerships with architects and site managers, the same attention to detail, whether it’s window colours, paint tones, skirting details, ironmongery, internal doors, bespoke joinery and floor and wall finishes, electrical and RCP lighting designs, room-by-room FF&E and window dressing after builders’ handover, it’s all in hand. We do a lot of work on blank canvases: a newly-completed development or property.

Whether the first meeting with the client’s virtual or physical, it’s all about fact-finding and getting to know them well enough to outline three styling routes which we’re confident fit with what we know about the property and what we’ve learnt about them.

Once that and the budget have been agreed, we typically move on to site visits, bespoke, room-by-room FF&E, costing schedules and space planning (all the interesting stuff, in other words, that our interiors team lives for). In line with our full turnkey package offering, we sort everything out: orders, deliveries, surveys, the works.

And then, once everything’s finished to the client’s satisfaction and our exacting standards, we work closely with our local photographers to make sure the shoot’s the best it can be for holiday letting companies or show-home marketing.
