A North Cornwall gem with year-round shine

AMBITION

To design a beautiful, brand new, Art Deco, Miami-inspired hotel on the North Cornwall coast. To use our Interiors and Graphics teams to balance seamlessly the interiors and branding, the serious with the playful, the luxurious with the locally-accessible and the sense of urban chic with coastal retreat. We would also be responsible, in a first for any outside agency, for reworking the original Cowshed Spa design formula for use within the hotel.

SOLUTION

Our Interiors team’s work was as painstaking as it was sophisticated. We infused 48 hotel rooms, 16 suites and 32 double rooms with an authentically historical feel offset by rigorous 21st century standards. Rich leather browns and grey, old-aged oak rubbed shoulders with cool aqua blues; 1920s mannequins became coat racks; old school chairs, a crescent-shaped sofa and marbled ‘French-patisserie’-style pieces lent period appeal. Meanwhile, we pioneered a full brand toolkit and marketing campaign aimed at locals and the off-season, to entice in groups of people who would never otherwise have set foot in it.

RESULTS

Delighted clients, flocking customers, great reviews and enough business all year to keep people employed and the local economy boosted.  The Guardian said: “If it’s ocean views and Art Deco glitz you’re after, this new seaside hotel could save you the schlep to Miami.” And, in response to a ‘Solid as Rock’ campaign to attract more locals, the scheme’s first six months saw nearly 1100 sign up.
